Assyrian Bishop Stabbed in Australia - Encounter Today - Blog

Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel was brutally attacked whilst delivering a sermon on Monday in Sydney, Australia in what authorities have now classified as an act of terrorism.

During the sermon which was being live-streamed from Christ The Good Shepherd Church, a dark figure appeared on the screen walking directly at the Bishop. Suddenly, the 16 year old boy raised his hand where the knife could be seen, lunged forward and started to stab Bishop Emmanuel in the face and neck multiple times before congregation members rushed forward to try and subdue the terrorist.

It is reported that the Bishop’s life was saved due to the knife malfunctioning. As seen in the disturbing clip of the attack, the terrorist appears to lift the knife, look at it as it and try to fidget with it as it did not seem to be working.

This malfunction allowed more people in the congregation to step in and help the Bishop.

Three of the congregation members who restrained the terrorist were injured and transported with Bishop Emmanuel to the hospital were they were treated and it is reported that they are all in stable condition.

The terrorist was taken into police custody.

Although the terrorist’s motive has yet to be determined (at least, released by authorities), authorities have suggested Bishop Emmanuel’s content online may have inspired the attack.

It is plausible that Bishop Emmanuel’s addressing Islam in particular is the key reason for the attack. The terrorist could be heard in a video filmed in the wake of the alleged attack, saying in Arabic: “If he [the bishop] didn’t get himself involved in my religion, if he hadn’t spoken about my Prophet, I wouldn’t have come here … if he just spoke about his own religion, I wouldn’t have come.”

Up to 2,000 residents of the city gathered outside of the church, believing the terrorist to still be inside. In video footage by those at the scene, “bring him out” chants can be heard.

Due to the increasing tensions at the scene, a riot squad was called upon to help disperse the crowd.

Chris Minns, the NSW premier, said on Monday that the terrorist had been found in possession of a flick knife at a train station in November last year, and that he had been placed on a good behaviour bond by the magistrate earlier this year. It was found that he had also been found with a knife at school in 2020.

Just two days before the attack at Christ The Good Shepherd Church, another stabbing occurred at Sydney’s Westfield Bondi Junction mall which left seven injured and six persons dead, including a six month old baby. The terrorist was killed at the scene.

Following the series of attacks, Australia’s online “safety” regulator came out stating that if footage online is seen as “violent, distressing or harmful, people shouldn’t share it and should report it to them.

Bishop Emmanuel has become known as “the TikTok Bishop,” rising to prominence during the global lockdowns for denouncing government’s actions, warning against the recommended “vaccines” all while bringing the truth of God’s Word to the forefront surrounding cultural issues many nations are facing with regards to sexuality.
