Rockefeller Foundation Funding China’s Communist Regime
Three of the largest leftist foundations in the United States; the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, the Ford Foundation, and the MacArthur Foundation, have given $10.2 million directly to the Chinese government, universities, and organizations led by high-ranking members of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), according to tax filing documents.
Disturbingly, the funds dedicated to Chinese universities, agencies, and organizations work arm-in-arm with the People’s Liberation Army.
Between 2017 and 2022, the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) received $530,000 from the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, $706,000 from the Ford Foundation and $265,000 from the MacArthur Foundation. The funds went towards environmental initiatives, research examining China’s investments in the global south “from a gender perspective” and ecological research.
CAS is governed by the Chinese State Council and the Party Central Committee which are operated by CCP members.
Interestingly, according to its website, the infamous Wuhan Institute of Virology is a subsidiary of CAS where many believe COVID-19 originated.

All three universities funded by American charities (Peking, Tsinghua and the North China Institute of Aerospace Engineering) are intensively involved in Chinese defense research.
In 2022, CAS’ Institute of Computing Technology was added to the U.S. Commerce Department to its list of entities actively supporting the Chinese military and defense industry.
“It’s telling that the areas where China seems to be soliciting foreign foundation funding—especially from a country like the US which places a premium on free speech—is in its university sector,” said Sarah Lee who is the director of communications at the Capital Research Center.
“The CCP’s economic warfare uses any and all available leverage to coerce us,” Chairman of the House Select Committee on the CCP Rep. Mike Gallagher told the Daily Caller News Foundation. “We need to stop fueling our own destruction.”
In a statement to The Daily Caller News Foundation, the Ford Foundation defended its grantmaking to Chinese government organizations. “The Ford Foundation’s work in China is designed to help ensure that China’s economic, political, and social impacts are equitable, both domestically and globally,” said a spokesperson for the charity. “The grants referenced help advance this aim, from studying the effects of urbanization on migrant laborers and the elderly to advancing the field of philanthropy in China.”
These three foundations are funding pillars of the left not only in America but across the world.
From funding Marxist activist groups like Black Lives Matter, to creating policy for politicians, to providing funds for litigation, to helping the mail-in balloting operation during the 2020 election; ensuring anti-American groups, governments and individuals are funded seems to be the real mission of the Rockefeller, Ford, and MacArthur foundations.
