US Aid Group Supplants UN, Breaks Hamas’ Grip in Gaza

A new group has burst onto the scene, backed by the United States and the Israeli governments, that is successfully delivering aid to the people in Gaza, supplanting the United Nations and decimating Hamas’ grip on the region.

The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation says it is offering “a new operating model” in order to bypass Hamas’s blockades in order to deliver food, water and other supplies to the millions of civilians who have been stranded.

One of the first times the world heard of the group came by way of a rare presentation to the UN Security Council by U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff who introduced the American initiative to restore humanitarian aid to Gaza through a new independent mechanism known as the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF).

Witkoff emphasized the initiative’s founding principles were that of “transparency, independence and security” and that the purpose of the initiative was to ensure no aid landed in the hands of Hamas as it so often has.

The GHF has successfully established four Secure Distribution Sites across the Gaza Strip, each serving up to 300,000 people, with the goal of reaching 1.2 million residents in the first phase and up to 2 million later. These sites are supplied with aid ranging from food to medicine, all of which is protected and secured by independent military and security contractors, as opposed to the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).

According to a GHF document that was circulated prior to the operation’s initiation, it states that if the mission is successful GHF will set “a new standard for humanitarian aid in conflict zones,” but only “if it can fulfill its promise, it may become a global model for restoring trust in humanitarian assistance in crisis areas worldwide.”

Despite the initiative’s proven neutrality in both word and deed both prior to the mission as well as during, the United Nations, along with other humanitarian organizations, have come out in strong opposition to the GHF and have gone so far as to refuse cooperation with the delivery of aid to the vulnerable populations in Gaza.

Whilst several mainstream publications have touted the talking points of the United Nations’ and Hamas which have labeled GHF’s means of delivering aid as a politically motivated move by Israel, the group’s actions reveal a different story.

In an attempt to ensure the largest number of people are helped, the foundation has also invited local and international NGOs to use its secure infrastructure for the delivery of aid, much of which has been sitting in warehouses for weeks, and in some cases, months.

The reality of the situation has exposed the ineffectiveness of the United Nations and other aid programs in the region which have been well established fixtures for years. Furthermore, the refusal of these groups to assist by any means necessary to reach hurting populations is telling of the group’s priorities.
