Biden’s $37 Million Fine Against Christian University Revoked

President Trump’s Education Department has rescinded a $37 million dollar fine against Grand Canyon University (GCU) that was issued by former President Biden’s administration back in 2023.
GCU, the largest Christian university in the United States, was slapped with a record fine against a Christian university which sparked allegations that the Biden administration was intentionally targeting Christian universities.
Thankfully, Trump’s Education Department dismissed the case with “no findings” of wrongdoing by the university, as well as prejudice, which means the suit is prevented from being brought forward again.
“Unlike the previous Administration, we will not persecute and prosecute colleges and universities based on their religious affiliation,” Ellen Keast, spokeswoman for the Education Department, told the Daily Caller News Foundation.
“The Trump Administration will continue to ensure every institution of higher education is held accountable based on facts – but Department enforcement will be for the purpose of serving students, not political bias.”
Biden’s Education Department announced they would be issuing the fine back in 2023 after an investigation allegedly found the school had “substantially” misrepresented the cost of the doctoral program provided.
In the same year, Biden’s administration targeted GCU’s tax-exemption nonprofit status, claiming the school didn’t fit the requirements necessary for a non-profit. Biden’s department did this despite the fact that the IRS had already recognized the school’s non-profit status. This move prompted GCU to sue the administration which landed them a win in court in 2024.
Investigations by Congress into former President Joe Biden’s “attacks” on Christian colleges and universities have been called for by the American Principles Project. It has yet to be announced whether Congress will move forward with such investigations.
GCU President Brian Mueller commented on the situation saying, “The facts clearly support our contention that we were wrongly accused of misleading our Doctoral students and we appreciate the recognition that those accusations were without merit.”
“GCU is a leader in innovation, transparency and best practices in higher education and we look forward to working cooperatively with the Department in the future – just as we have with all regulatory agencies.”
