Beat Offense, Claim Your Destiny!

Beat Offense, Claim Your Destiny - Encounter Today - Blog

Your response to offense determines your future: this spiritual principle can make or break your destiny.

The enemy knows this, and he’s banking on you missing it. He’s counting on you picking up that offense, nursing it, and letting it fester until it derails everything God has planned for you.

The life of Joseph is a perfect example: this man’s life was a masterclass in overcoming offense.

Betrayed by his own brothers, lied about by Potiphar’s wife, thrown into a pit, and locked in a prison; Joseph had every reason to be bitter. He could’ve sat in that prison dungeon, stewing over the injustice, cursing his family, and shaking his fist at God but that wasn’t his response.

Instead, Joseph refused to let offense write his story. This very action opened the door for him to go from a prison’s pit to the inner parts of a palace.

Offense is a trap, a satanic snare, carefully laid by the enemy to get you fighting the wrong battle.

When you’re offended, you’re tempted to swing at people; your spouse, boss, friend, or that stranger who cut you off in traffic, but the real enemy isn’t flesh and blood. Ephesians 6:12 says that we don’t wrestle against people, but against principalities and powers in the spiritual realm.

Offense blinds a person to that truth, tricking them into abandoning their God-given assignment.

Jesus Himself warns in Luke 17:1, “It is impossible but that offenses will come.” Did you catch that? Offenses will come.

No one can control what hits them. People will lie about you, betray you, misunderstand you; sometimes on purpose, sometimes without even knowing it.

That’s life in a fallen world but here’s where your power lies: You control what you hold onto.

Perspective Shift

We can’t walk in resurrection power while dragging around the corpse of yesterday’s betrayal.

That offense you’re carrying? It’s dead weight, like a chain around your ankle that’s keeping you from stepping into the promises God has for you.

You have to let it go, not because the one who caused the offense deserves it, but because you have too much destiny ahead to stay stuck in what’s behind.

Joseph didn’t just survive his trials; he thrived through them. Why? Because he chose forgiveness over bitterness. He chose faith over feelings. When he finally faced his brothers years later, he didn’t curse them, he blessed them.

In Genesis 50:20 it says, “You meant evil against me, but God meant it for good.” That’s the kind of heart that God can trust with greatness.

So, what’s it going to be? Are you going to let that offense define you? Are you going to let the pain of what they did keep you in a prison of your own making? Or are you going to release it to God and trust Him to turn your wounds into wisdom, your scars into stars?

If you’re ready to release the offense you’ve carried, here’s where to begin: Take it to the cross, lay that offense at the feet of Jesus and forgive, not in your own strength, but in His. Then ask God to renew your mind and refocus your heart on the assignment He’s given you.

The enemy wants you distracted, but God wants you determined.

Conclusion

Your future is too bright to be dimmed by the shadows of yesterday.

Your calling is too great to be derailed by the sting of betrayal.

Let it go, step out of the prison and walk into the palace.

Your response to offense doesn’t just shape your today, it determines your tomorrow.

Let’s pray: Father, we come before You, laying down every offense we’ve been carrying. We release the hurt, the bitterness, and the pain. Fill us with Your grace to forgive and Your strength to move forward. Let us walk in the freedom of Your purpose, unhindered by the traps of the enemy. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Now live the life God has called you to live; offense-free and full of His power!
