Trudeau to Carney: Canada’s New Leader, More of the Same

Canada's New Leader, More of the Same - Encounter Today - Blog

The terrible news is out, Mark Carney has been chosen to replace Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and leader of the Liberal Party of Canada.

Carney is one of the darlings of the World Economic Forum, he formerly served as the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Climate Change. A globalist and head of the Bank of Canada and Bank of England.

With a globalist, climate fanatic at the helm, what could go wrong?

How Did Carney Come To Power?

At the beginning of this year, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that he would be stepping down due to internal pressure from his party, low approval ratings, and a loss of support following the resignation of his deputy prime minister, Chrystia Freeland.

This announcement triggered a process within the Liberal Party to find a new leader and four people threw their hats in the ring: Trudeau’s former deputy prime minister Chrystia Freeland, Mark Carney, Karina Gould, and Frank Baylis.

As with most elections these days, controversy accompanied much of the process.

One point of controversy is how, shockingly, the Liberal Party doesn’t even require its members to be an adult nor do they require their members to be a citizen of Canada in order to vote for the new leader!

An additional point is how, out of the 400,000 people registered as members of the Liberal Party, only 160,000 people could actually cast their vote online after an issue arose with the verification process.

Zooming out from these nitty gritty details, here is the larger perspective; Canadians will now be heading into an election this autumn with a leader of one party on the ballot who was chosen by only God knows who and this leader is going to sit in the highest office of the land until that election. To describe this situation as crazy is an understatement.

And if there are any hopes by Canadians or others that Carney will be better than Trudeau, those hopes will be short lived.

The only pro Carney has over Trudeau is his ability to say a few less “ums” and “uhs” but when it comes to policy he is equally as terrible as Trudeau with his varied number of strong globalist idealisms.

What Does Mark Carney Stand For?

Here are some of Carney’s key views that align with more progressive or anti-conservative ideologies:

1. “Climate Change” Action

  • Proponent of Strong Environmental Policies: Carney has been a vocal advocate for addressing climate change through regulatory measures and financial policies. He has called for the integration of climate risks into financial planning and has promoted carbon pricing as an effective means to reduce emissions.

  • Support for so-called “Green” Finance: Carney has pushed for financial institutions to consider climate risks when making investment decisions, emphasizing that markets should take into account environmental factors
  • Opposition to Fossil Fuel Subsidies: Carney has suggested that governments should phase out subsidies to fossil fuels, arguing that such subsidies distort the market and hinder the transition to energy which he claims to be “cleaner.”

2. Monetary and Fiscal Policy

  • Support for Activist Monetary Policies: As central bank governor, Carney supported monetary policies including low interest rates and quantitative easing, such policies run a risk of creating financial instability.
  • Fiscal Stimulus and Government Spending: Instead of reducing government spending, Carney has come out in support of government stimulus measures to boost the economy, particularly in times of crisis (e.g., during the 2008 financial crisis).

3. Income Inequality and Social Justice

  • Addressing Income Inequality: Carney has expressed concern about rising income inequality, often advocating for policies that address wealth distribution and provide better opportunities for marginalized communities. This is the politically correct way of saying Carney is a socialist.
  • Inclusive Economic Growth: He has emphasized the importance of creating an economy that benefits all sectors of society, as opposed to a market that offers equal opportunity.

4. Immigration and Globalization

  • Support for Immigration: Carney believes that immigration has a the positive impact on the economy, viewing it as vital for economic growth. Whilst there is nothing wrong with immigration, it is a matter of who is permitted into a nation and the numbers by which persons are admitted into a nation and in the case of Canada, a tightening of immigration laws is desperately needed.
  • Globalization and Multilateralism: Carney has supported international cooperation and free trade, advocating for globalization as a means to drive economic growth, which contrasts with more protectionist and nationalist policies which prioritize products created within a nation.

5. Technological and Digital Transformation

  • Support for Innovation and Green Technology: Carney has supported the development of digital finance, clean energy, and other emerging technologies as part of the solution to climate change and economic growth.

7. Socially Progressive Stance

  • Human Rights and Equality: Carney has consistently expressed a commitment to the LGBTQ movement, as well as to the umbrella term of “equality” which includes abortion and other leftist social policies such as diversity and inclusion.

In summary, Carney’s policy stances on issues like climate change, financial regulation, social equity, and government intervention in the economy place him at odds with Biblical viewpoints, which call for the limitation of government and the upholding of values which are found within God’s Word.

In conclusion, pray for Canada.

Pray for the hearts of those currently in leadership and those that will come.

Pray that righteous people will be placed before Canada’s leaders and that their hearts would be soft to hear that which is spoken and that their eyes are opened to the truth.

Pray that, despite political turmoil and unrighteousness, there would be an outpouring of God’s Spirit across the land.

“1 Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, 2 for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. 3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time” 1 Timothy 2:1-6
