Democrats To Block the Laken Riley Act?

Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) went after his own party for voting against the Laken Riley Act in the House and is standing against them with his vote in the Senate.

Laken Riley was murdered by a 26-year-old Venezuelan Jose Ibarra who was reportedly let go after being detained at the southern border.

In August of 2023, the suspected murderer had been arrested in New York for driving with an unregistered car with a 5-year-old inside. Ibarra and his brother went on to steal goods from a Walmart in Georgia.

If the “Laken Riley Act” passes, it would make it easier for ICE to detain and deport illegal aliens when they break U.S. law in crossing her southern border, thus, ensuring such actions as were taken against Laken Riley are not taken against another American citizen.

The Act would “require the Secretary of Homeland Security to take into custody aliens who have been charged in the United States with theft, and for other purposes.”

H.R. 7511 would also allow action to be taken against the U.S. attorney general or secretary of Homeland Security by a state’s attorney general, or another authorized state officer, in “alleging an action or decision by the Attorney General or Secretary of Homeland Security under this section to release any alien or grant bond or parole to any alien that harms such State or its residents …”

170 House Democrats voted against the bill with 251 Republicans voting favorably. This means the bill must now be approved by the Senate.

“If we can’t come up with at least 7 votes [in the Senate to pass this] – that’s a reason we lost,” Fetterman commented.

“I’d like to remind everybody that we have hundreds of thousands of illegal migrants convicted of crimes. Who wants to defend, allow them to remain in our nation?”

“I don’t know why anybody thinks it’s controversial that they all need to go.”

At present, the bill only has the support of three Democrat Senators, John Fetterman, Gary Peters, and most recently, Ruben Gallego. It has also been reported that Senator Jon Ossoff will put his stamp of approval on the bill.

Senator Gallego commented how, “we must give law enforcement the means to take action when illegal immigrants break the law, to precent situations life what occurred to Laken Riley.”

Gallego is correct.

Government isn’t meant to be a source of provision to the nation, but rather, it is meant to be an institution of justice; to promote those who do good and righteous works whilst simultaneously condemning and punishing evil.

Regardless of the political factions at play in the various Houses of government in the United States Congress, it is heartening to know that there are still some who remain willing to put aside their party affiliation in order to stand up for the good of the American people.
