Comedian Baptized: “I Want To Believe In God”
Despite hating church, a yearning for God moved comedian Matt Rife to get baptized following the death of his grandfather. “I got baptized in August… in a dude’s pool,” the 29-year-old said on the History Hyenas podcast.
Though he wasn’t raised in a religious household, he would occasionally attend church with friends. After his grandfather passed two years ago, Rife started thinking more about God.

“I’ve never been a super religious person, but when my grandpa passed away, something hit me that I was like, ‘I’ll never see this person again,’” he said. “So something has to exist. I skew Christian, so I started going to church a little bit more.”
“I hate church; I find it excruciatingly boring,” Rife said. “But I want to believe in God, and it’s obviously a huge part of the process.” Rife’s comments resonate with other comedians coming to faith in Christ.
Last year, Rob Schneider converted to Catholicism and distanced himself from his past comedy, whilst Russell Brand, who was baptized in the River Thames, also speaks openly about his Christian journey.

Though Joe Rogan isn’t a professing Christian, he frequently discusses religion on his podcast, emphasizing the need for a moral compass and divine structure in modern society.
The growing trend among comedians and those with massive platforms discussing faith highlights a shift taking place in the hearts of man and the overflow is affecting their work and followers.
Rife is the latest in a slew of comedians to embrace Christianity or use their platform to discuss the Bible, faith and religion in recent years.
New Believers, What To Do?
Encourage, encourage, encourage.
As new Christian believers begin a relationship with Jesus, it’s important to remind them that faith is a continuous growth process. Encouragement is key, especially in the early days, when they may have questions. Be that place of reassurance and encouragement!
Remind them that God’s love and guidance are always with them.
Encourage new believers to take time to be in prayer, worship, and Bible study, helping them understand that every effort to connect with God strengthens their relationship with Him.
It’s also helpful to remind new believers that growth in faith takes time. Just as a plant needs nurturing to grow, their spiritual life needs care and patience.
Encourage them to embrace the journey, trusting that God will lead them through each season and know that they are not alone as God has given us all community to rely on. Celebrate the small victories and remind them that every step forward, no matter how small, is a sign of God’s work in their lives.
Thank you for your support.
