HISTORIC: Switzerland Stands Against Hezbollah
Switzerland has voted to ban Hezbollah this week, a historic move for the country that’s become known for its neutrality. This vote comes a mere week after the Swiss Parliament outlawed Hamas in Gaza over the October 7, 2023, terrorist attack in southern Israel.
The Lebanese-based terror group has been deemed an international security threat, making it necessary for Switzerland to stand against the terrorist organization.
The measure to ban Hezbollah was first passed in the upper house which was then followed in the lower house with 126 votes in favor, 20 against, and 41 abstentions.
Standing in opposition to the ban was the Swiss government who fell back on Switzerland’s intelligence act which requires a United Nations designation or sanctions to be placed on a region or group before such measures could be implemented.
During parliamentary debate, Swiss Justice Minister Beat Jans stated, “If Switzerland now moves to ban such organizations with special laws, we must ask ourselves where and how the boundaries are drawn,”

Switzerland made another major step this year in making their anti-terror position known.
In September of this year, the Swiss National Council voted to cease payments to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) after evidence emerged that much of the organization was involved with Hamas and how their personnel was actively promoting hatred and violence in UNRWA school curricula.
Following the October 7 massacre by Hamas in Israel, a joint statement was released by the Swiss Federation of Jewish Communities and the Platform of Liberal Jews in Switzerland which read, “Without a clear ban, Hamas will continue to receive legitimacy as a normal political actor. All the more so because Hamas can move freely in Switzerland, collect donations and handle its finances.”
Nations moving against those who seek the demise of Israel are nations worth keeping an eye on.
We know that, concerning Israel, God said that He “will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you” as seen in Genesis 12:2.
