Elon Musk to Defund Planned Parenthood Using DOGE

Planned Parenthood has no friend in Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy who plan to strip the pro-abortion organization of its funding, along with several other organizations and institutions, through their new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

President-elect Donald Trump tapped Musk and Ramaswamy to spearhead DOGE which will act as an advisory board.

One of the first proposed acts of the Department will be to cut the $300 million funding Planned Parenthood currently gets in federal taxpayer dollars, other organizations such as NPR were also on the chopping block.

Under the Biden/Harris administration, Planned Parenthood received a whopping $750 million of taxpayer funding while performing a record 392,000 abortions in 2023 alone.

Slashing the abortion business’s funding would cripple the so-called nonprofit who receives roughly one-third of its total income from the federal government.

How can the fat be trimmed? In a joint article published by The Wall Street Journal, the two men wrote:

“Skeptics question how much federal spending DOGE can tame through executive action alone. They point to the 1974 Impoundment Control Act, which stops the president from ceasing expenditures authorized by Congress.”

“Mr. Trump has previously suggested this statute is unconstitutional, and we believe the current Supreme Court would likely side with him on this question.”

And here is where it gets interesting, “But even without relying on that view, DOGE will help end federal overspending by taking aim at the $500 billion plus in annual federal expenditures that are unauthorized by Congress or being used in ways that Congress never intended, from $535 million a year to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and $1.5 billion for grants to international organizations to nearly $300 million to progressive groups like Planned Parenthood.”

Vice-presidential candidate JD Vance said during the campaign that if Donald Trump was elected, he would fight to defund the Planned Parenthood.

Speaking to RealClearPolitics, Vance stated, “We don’t think that taxpayers should fund late-term abortions … That has been a consistent view of the Trump campaign the first time around, it will remain a consistent view.”

Is there any credibility to Vance’s claims?

If President-elect Trump’s record has anything to say about it, than absolutely!

In his last term in office, Trump sought to revoke Planned Parenthood’s funding, and whilst he was successful in some ways, he was prevented in others, with his executive orders facing challenges in the courts.

What To Expect

Based upon the direction of Trump’s last administration, as well as the emphasis there is on government efficiency, cutting funding for Planned Parenthood International and reinstating the Mexico City Policy, one of his first actions as president in 2017, are both very plausible.

Defunding the United Nations population control division called the UNFPA is another possibility under this new administration as Trump previously stopped funding them due to their link to forced and coerced abortions.

Conclusion

American’s tax dollars should never be used to facilitate the killing of preborn children, whether that be at home or abroad and we can thank God that there are people coming into positions of authority and influence who are going to ensure those committing these horrific acts against God’s image bearers are cut off.
