Truth > Spin: America Killed Establishment Media
With the viewership of establishment media tanking and several announcements of big-name TV personalities being dropped post-election, it would appear as though the American people haven’t just had their voices heard at the polls in this Presidential election, but their rallying cry has far extended to the cultural scene as well.
The departure of CNN’s Chris Wallace, multiple rounds of layoffs at big wig media corporations and reports of senior stars like Wolf Blitzer and Jake Tapper both being denied raises, it’s easy to recognize that something is up, and we are here for it!
MSNBC has been a well-known name in the media spotlight, over the last couple years, however, Americans have been seeking news sources with no strings attached and it’s showing up in their numbers.
The outlet’s viewership has dropped by half in the days following President-elect Donald Trump’s victory whilst CNN’s dropped by 26%!
This news comes in as a shocking Gallup poll revealed that just 32% of Americans trust the mass media which explains the numbers we’re witnessing.
Meanwhile, CNN carries a mere 800,000 viewers of its primetime slots which is abysmal when compared to Fox News’s Laura Ingraham and Greg Gutfeld who average around 2.8 million a night. These two hosts on a right-leaning establishment outlet are some of the less unbridled and the attractiveness of that factor is what people are looking for.
Establishment media has clearly met their match with the new kids on the block, independent media, who are matching (if not outperforming) their numbers.
From Encounter News to the Post Millennial to the Daily Caller and House in Habit which is a Substack/Instagram news outlet fusion run by a mother and a couple of her closest independent writing friends (none of whom have journalism degrees fyi), it’s clear to see, people want real, raw truth over the spin that the establishment has force fed the public for so long.
Speaking of attractiveness, here is just a slight comparison for you to digest: the New York Times, who many have pointed to as the pinnacle of elite journalism, has an average of 123 million monthly visitors whilst House in Habit has garnered over one billion on Instagram alone in 90 days, this is nothing to say of her Substack where her articles are published.
Despite their tanking numbers, blatant biases being put on display and frequent callouts from readers in their comments online, the establishment isn’t giving up on what they want the American people to think.
Multiple rounds of layoffs doesn’t even appear to be a deterrence!
‘In the next few months, I’m told, CNN will implement another round of layoffs that will impact hundreds of employees across the organization,’ reporter Dylan Byers recently wrote, referencing CNN’s recent 100-person layoff seen over the summer.
Adoring articles about their media darlings, the coverage they give and the favorable narratives they paint about those in culture and politics who fit their “mainstream” (more like out of touch) ideals is showing and people don’t care for it.
This trend amongst the American people in redirecting their attention serves as an example of the age old saying “put your money where your mouth is,” and this signal has reached the hills of Hollywood and its elite who, during this past election, came out in droves for Kamala Harris.
Did Americans care that Oprah and Taylor Swift supported Harris? Not a bit. Did they cast their votes for her after hearing Lizzo? Nope.
As Suzanne Bowdey from The Washington Stand put it, “If there’s anything more gratifying than watching conservatives win, it’s watching celebrities lose. The pampered, out-of-touch A-listers who shilled for Kamala Harris have not coped well since Tuesday’s results (if threats of death-by-Drano are any indication),” and I couldn’t agree more.
“But in every meltdown, one thing is clear: their despair isn’t just that the vice president failed, but that the country is too stupid to understand that famous people know better. It’s the same campaign of condescension that led to the demise of woke corporations,” Bowdey continued, “And with a little luck, celebrity endorsements will meet the same fate.”
In conclusion, from media elites to the celebrities who reside within Hollywood’s echo chamber, if being out of touch with the pulse of reality amongst the American public were an example to point to, this would be it.
