Catholic Woman Scores $12M After Vaccine Refusal - Encounter Today - Blog

Lisa Domski was fired by her former employer, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, for refusing the COVID-19 injection and was awarded nearly $13 million in damages after her case was heard in court.

The payout came after a federal jury in Detroit ruled in favor of her religious discrimination case.

Domski argued that her employer denied her religious exemption request from the company’s 2021 COVID vaccine policy despite her insistence that it stood in contradiction with her Catholic faith.

Shockingly, Domski wasn’t even a full time, in-office employee as prior to the COVID lockdowns, she had a hybrid work arrangement and also worked remotely during the “pandemic.”

Working from home should have excluded Domski from the vaccine policy but after 38 years with the company and a written submission of her religious convictions and her refusal to comply, she was fired.

$10 million in punitive damages against Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan was awarded with an additional $1.7 million in lost wages and $1 million in noneconomic damages.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee lost another case after Tanja Benton, another employee, was also fired for refusing to comply with the company’s discriminatory COVID-19 vaccine requirement.

Conclusion

So why does this matter?

Because, as time goes on, many people will forget the past and many others will neglect to remember those who stood up in the face of tyranny but we will not forget!

America is a country where religious freedom still matters and it is a right which is protected and guaranteed by the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

Many people hold deeply held religious beliefs that conflict with many mandates and practices, and allowing exemptions ensures that the freedoms of the faithful are respected and discrimination doesn’t become the norm in our societies.

The accommodation of religious exemptions is a direct reflection of America’s commitment to both religious diversity and personal autonomy.

Freedom is fragile, and it takes individuals such as Lisa Domski and Tanja Benton who exercise their rights and freedoms no matter the cost, to secure these freedoms for the next generation.
