8 Things The Holy Spirit Loves To Do - Encounter Today - Blog

The Holy Spirit is integral to the life of every believer, serving as both a guide and a transformative force.

The significance of the Holy Spirit lies in His active presence, empowering the believer to live out their faith authentically and boldly.

Through the baptism of the Holy Spirit, believers are equipped with spiritual gifts that enable us to minister effectively, share the Gospel, and experience deeper intimacy with God.

The Holy Spirit convicts hearts, brings about spiritual renewal, and fosters a profound understanding of Scripture.

Embracing the Holy Spirit is essential for personal spiritual growth and the fulfillment of God’s purpose in and through the church.

Here are eight things the Holy Spirit loves to do:

1- Glorify Jesus

“He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you.” John 16:14

The Holy Spirit plays a crucial role in glorifying Jesus by revealing His character, teachings, and the significance of His sacrifice to the believer whilst empowering the them to live according to the call of God upon their life.

As described in the Gospel of John, the Spirit acts as a helper and advocate, guiding believers into all truth and reminding us of everything Jesus taught (John 14:26).

This work of the Holy Spirit draws attention to Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection, emphasizing His role as the Savior and the fulfillment of God’s promises.

2. Producing Spiritual Fruit

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” Galatians 5:22-23

The Holy Spirit loves to produce spiritual fruit in the lives of believers, reflecting the character of Christ.

When we’re living lives in accordance with Scripture and we are being led by the Holy Spirit, we begin to produce fruit as a result of His indwelling!

What is a characteristic of a Spirit-filled believer?

They give thanks to God, they submit to one another (Ephesians 5:19-21) and they lead lives that are not dominated by the desires of the flesh but lives that are lead by the Spirit. (Galatians 5:16, 25)

Galatians 5:22-23 further explains what a life that is lived in line with the spirit looks like:

“The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control…”

3. Interceding for Believers

“In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us through groanings.” Romans 8:26

The Holy Spirit loves to intercede for believers, helping them in their prayers and aligning them with God’s will.

4. Fostering Unity Amongst Believers

“Make every efforts to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” Ephesians 4:3

The Holy Spirit loves to foster unity amongst believers, creating a bond of peace and cooperation in the body of Christ.

5. Comforting and Encouraging

“And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever.” John 14:16

The Holy Spirit has several roles and functions, one of the predominate is that of our comforter and encourager.

In John 14:15-27, Jesus says “If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept Him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live.”

“On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.”

Jesus promises to not leave us as orphans and also promises to bring us peace through the power of the Holy Spirit.

6. Convicting the World of Sin

“When He comes, He will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgement.” John 16:8

The Holy Spirit loves to convict the world of sin, leading people to repentance and faith in Jesus.

Romans 8:1-17 also speaks to the Holy Spirit serving as a guide who helps us to be aware of the sins we commit:

“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.”

7. Empowering Believers to Witness

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you: and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8

The Holy Spirit empowers us as believers to be bold witnesses for Christ!

The Holy Spirit’s wisdom not only enlightens our minds, but it also directs our heart to purer, deeper love for God and the people Jesus came and gave His life for.

8. Guiding Believers Into All Truth

“But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth.” John 16:13

The Holy Spirit loves guiding believers into all truth, helping them understand God’s Word and His perfect will.

Romans 8: 1-4 also speaks of how the Holy Spirit is a source of consciousness.

Not only does He guides us, but He also provides the gift of understanding. This gift enables us to know and comprehend the will of God for our lives.

Through understanding we are more able to grasp the meaning of revealed truths and, through them, to be stirred into a more active faith life. In this way, our faith ceases to be sterile, but inspires a mode of life that bears testimony to the faith that is in us.

Conclusion

These are just eight things Holy Spirit does in us, through us and for us but there are still more to discover whilst you spend time in God’s Word!

Just as the disciples received the gift of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, we too as Christians can enjoy the fullness, greatness and power of the Holy Spirit working in our lives, and enhancing our relationship with God!

What an incredible privilege this is!
