EXPOSED: Chinese Spies In NY Government
NEW YORK, NY: A former aide to NY Governor Kathy Hochul and former Governor Andrew Cuomo has been charged with acting as an illegal agent of China’s communist government.
According to federal prosecutors, Linda Sun used her positions to advance Beijing’s agenda. Allegedly, Sun’s husband, Chris Hu, was also a part of the scheme as his company received millions of dollars worth in gifts and compensation from the Chinese government for Sun’s efforts.
Sun has held several positions over her 15 year career in New York’s government; from deputy diversity officer under the Cuomo administration to deputy chief of staff in Hochul’s administration.
Last year, however, Sun was fired after Hochul’s administration discovered several instances of misconduct and on Tuesday morning, Sun was arrested along with her husband. Both have since pleaded not guilty in court.
According to the indictment, Chinese officials requested representatives of the Taiwanese government be denied access to the governor’s office, and in addition to this and several other incidents, a trip was also arranged for a high ranking NY politician to visit China.
Commenting on the situation, Governor Hochul stated in an interview with WNYC:
“It was a betrayal of trust—the trust of government, the trust of the people. And I’ll tell you this, the second we discovered some levels of misconduct, we fired her, we alerted the authorities, and hence we ended up with what happened here today.”
This case against Sun is part of a more comprehensive effort by the Justice Department to uncover secret agents for the Chinese communist government that are currently in operation in the United States, according to a report by the Associated Press.
In 2023, it was exposed how several NY politicians have received donations by community groups based in the United States who are linked to the United Front Work Department which is operated by the Chinese Communist Party.
The investigation, conducted by Newsweek, revealed a litany of funding streams which implicated politicians stemming all the way back to former NY Senator Hillary Clinton.
Perspective
Whether it’s Governor Kathy Hochul or any other person in a leadership position, it is essential to vet those who are in their inner circle as they are key gatekeepers.
In this, we can derive an essential lesson for our own lives – to watch over our own spheres of influence and who we allow into them.
