“Queering” America’s Nukes?
Biden’s new nuclear security appointee to the Department of Energy (DoE) believes that “queering nuclear weapons” will enhance U.S. security and has a past of calling for disarmament.
Sneha Nair, who was appointed to the DoE earlier this year, believes “queering nuclear weapons” as part of a diversity, equity and inclusion initiative would help in the refinement of what we consider threats.
Nair also believes in eradicating purported “white supremacy” in the nuclear field and that the U.S. government should fix its focus on the emotional harm nuclear weapons cause because, somehow, this will create a safer world.
Prior to joining the DoE, Nair worked at the Stimson Center who has accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars from George Soros’ Open Society Foundations.
Whilst at Stimson, she co-authored an article on Disarmament and Non-Proliferation. In the article, the two authors wrote how queer theory, which is defined as “a field of study, closely related to feminist theory, that examines sex- and gender-based norms,” can “help change how nuclear practitioners, experts, and the public think about nuclear weapons.”
Whilst researching Nair’s statements and articles, the bizarreness of each seemed to match the next.
Another example we found was from a writing she authored last year:
“Finally, queer theory informs the struggle for nuclear justice and disarmament … Queer theory helps to shift the perception of nuclear weapons as instruments for security by telling the hidden stories of displacement, illness, and trauma caused by their production and testing.”
Without “diversity, equity and inclusion” (DEI) policies, Nair believes those working at nuclear security facilities are at risk of becoming “insider threats.”
“By understanding DEI as a set of values critical to security, and therefore as an element of an effective nuclear security culture, stakeholders can explore how DEI can contribute to stronger security at nuclear facilities,” she said in the article published in 2023.
Staff at nuclear facilities who are “white” aren’t able to evaluate threats from those who share their ethnicity, according to Nair who stated:
“An example of this is the threat posed by some White supremacist groups to nuclear facilities may go undetected if a White-majority workforce does not perceive these ideological leanings as indicators of a relevant nuclear security threat.”
Conclusion
Fact of the matter is that when dealing within the realm of national defense, your adversaries couldn’t care less about the DEI policies you have or how you’ve tried to “queer” your nukes or how their possession of nuclear weapons impacts your emotions.
Woke policies and abstract social theories crafted to appeal to a small sect of the population doesn’t keep the threat of nuclear attacks in check, what’s known as Mutually Assured Destruction does that for us.
Nair and many others like her who purport dangerously naive talking points and policy positions that are based upon communistic theories are, sadly, an expression of a generation who has been groomed to believe that in making the world “woke” we can bypass the harsh realities which have maintained global order.
