Can You Know God’s Plan For Your Life?
One of the most searched for questions online regarding faith is “Does God Have A Plan For My Life?”
This is a question every person on the planet wrestles with due to its vast application to several portions of our lives.
We wanted to address this question head on to bring clarity to any confusion that swirls around seeking to distort that which God makes clear in His Word on this issue, and no, we won’t make you wait until the end of the article to give you the answer which is YES! You can absolutely know God’s plan for your life!
Here are a few essentials to know that God has a plan for your life:
1. God’s Plan is Not a Detailed Blueprint:
Many people are looking for a detailed plan or blueprint for their lives, but God often provides guidance in more general principles rather that are often accompanied by instruction. God doesn’t give you a step-by-step guide for your whole life but gives us clear instruction on how to live life in every season.
2. Focus on Relationship with God:
Understanding God’s plan is found in developing a deeper relationship with Him. When we’re close to God, His plan for our lives starts to become clearer as we commune with Him daily.
How does one begin a relationship with God? First, we accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of our lives and from that point forward, we lead lives of consistent prayer, reading and meditating on the Bible, and seeking spiritual growth.
3. Seek Guidance through Scripture:
There is no replacement for God’s Word in understanding God’s will as the Bible is our guide that contains within it principles that help us make decisions aligned with God’s will for our lives.
Most simply put – God’s will is God’s Word!
Therefore, reading and meditating on scripture helps our decisions fall in line with divine guidance.
4. The Role of Prayer:
Prayer is essential in discerning God’s plan for our lives as it is through prayer that we are open and receptive to hearing from our heavenly Father.
Many today see prayer solely as a means of asking for our wants but a significant portion of prayer is being open to the leading of the Holy Spirit and obeying that which God calls to do.
5. Consult Wise Counsel:
Seek advice from spiritually mature individuals as God uses people who have far more experience and wisdom in faith to help guide us through this life.
If there is a decision we are contemplating or an experience or situation we are walking through, it is key to have faith-filled advisors in our lives who can bring valuable perspectives to the forefront whilst confirming that which we may be sensing.
6. Be Open to Unexpected Paths:
Be flexible and open to paths that may not align with plans we make for ourselves!
Being open to unexpected opportunities or a shift in direction is key as this builds our reliance upon the leading of the Holy Spirit whilst reminding us that God’s ways are higher and better than we could ever craft for ourselves.
7. Avoid Overemphasis on Finding the Exact Plan:
Forgo being overly focused on discovering the exact specifics of God’s plan.
Analysis paralysis is a very real thing and it can easily occur when we try to figure out the exact plan God has for our lives.
Instead of analyzation to the point of inaction, we can fix our focus on living more and more in alignment with God’s principles (ex: living pure and holy). From this place, we become more secure in who we are in Christ which propels us in discovering that ever unfolding plan God has for us.
8. Trust in God’s Guidance:
Faith and trust in being led by the Holy Spirit is crucial to discovering each step in God’s plan for our lives, even when we can’t see the whole picture, reliance upon God’s guidance will always lead us in the direction of God’s will.
Conclusion
Understanding God’s plan for our lives begins when we focus in on our relationship with God and this comes when we accept Jesus as our Lord and then dedicate ourselves to becoming students of scripture who pray without ceasing and remain open to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
Simply put: God’s plan for our lives is revealed through His Word (the Bible).
