Global Focus on Israel, Fulfilling An End Times Prophecy?
There are several indicators God gave to us in Scripture that point us to the soon return of Christ.
One of these indicators is found in Ezekiel 38 which speaks of an invasion that will take place, an invasion that involves a multitude of nations against the nation of Israel, a nation that has fulfilled the prophecy found in Ezekiel 36:4 which says, “’For I will take you out of the nations; I will gather you from all the countries and bring you back into your own land.”
In 1917, The United Nations took a historic vote to bring Israel back as a nation, along with this historic vote came the Balfour Declaration.
Decades later, commenting to the Jewish Post, Toni Young a committed Jewish leader, said about the Balfour Declaration:
“I believe the Balfour Declaration is the turning point, the moment that the world officially recognized the ‘Jewish problem’ and decided to help the Jews restore their dignity and return to their ‘ancient homeland’.”
“I appreciate its value. Without the Balfour Declaration, Israel might never have been created.”
50 years later, in 1967, Jerusalem was restored to Israel during the Six-Day War.
Noticing a theme here? There’s two, actually.
First off is the re-establishment of Israel and the second is the 50 year sequence of events. Each one of these events, and all those seemingly more minor happenings in between, are significant to the prophetic timeline.
How is this? In Leviticus 25:8-11 we read that every 50th year is to be a Jubilee. And as we just read above, there has been a consistent 50 years between a historic vote and document to bring back the nation of Israel, 50 years later Jerusalem was returned to Israel and then 50 years from then, the world’s superpower and closest ally formally and publicly recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
Nothing here is insignificant!
Lest we forget God saying He would bring His scattered people from across the globe back to the land He gave them as we saw in Ezekiel 36:4!
Now that we have this, albeit brief, foundational understanding of Israel coming back, we can begin looking at Ezekiel 38 and the invasion that will take place that involves a multitude of nations against Israel.
In Scripture there is a key word that draws the connection between Israel and Iran and that is the word “paras.”
“Paras” is the kingdom of Persia.
Speaking to Charisma News, Jonathan Cahn, a well known American Messianic Jewish pastor and best selling author, elaborated on this saying:
“It is the nation or kingdom of Persia. When Ezekiel wrote this, Persia had not even come into its world empire; it was just rising up, but would become extremely important.”
Today, Iran is what is known as Persia.
In the last days, it is spoken that the nation of Persia (Iran) will be an enemy of the nation of Israel. This is found in the book of Ezekiel chapter 38 but the key found within this passage is that the nation of Israel will first be gathered back together again before nations rise against her.
It is possible that the October 7th terrorist attacks and the unfolding events since have set in motion a portion of Ezekiel 38.
Cahn has spoken out about the book of Daniel; it was the “sar paras” that kept the angel of the Lord from coming to Daniel.
“Sar” means master, prince or captain.
“Paras” is the same word used in Ezekiel 38 referring to Persia.
“It’s battling against an angel of God, so it’s an entity of evil,” says Cahn.
This is a battle that will be ever increasing in the last days over Israel due to the wicked forces coming against her, Cahn believes:
“It specifically wars against the nation of Israel and God’s end time purposes for Israel.”
“The sar paras seeks to destroy the purposes of God for Israel and the Jewish people. [This force] seeks to stop it from rebuilding the temple to stop the coming of the Messiah.”
This is what we know as spiritual warfare. The unseen that is more real than our own physical reality.
Regardless of how hard forces of wickedness and darkness may push to destroy God’s chosen people, they are no match for our God who knows the beginning from the end. He is Alpha and Omega. He is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. There is no one before Him and no one after Him. He reigns supreme.
There is no reason to fear what the future will bring, for we have been raised with Christ as spoken of in Colossians 3:1-4:
“1 Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3 For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is your[a] life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.”
And may we ever be mindful to pray for the peace of Jerusalem, remembering Psalm 122 which says:
- I rejoiced with those who said to me, “Let us go to the house of the Lord.”
- Our feet are standing in your gates, Jerusalem.
- Jerusalem is built like a city that is closely compacted together.
- That is where the tribes go up—the tribes of the Lord—to praise the name of the Lord according to the statute given to Israel.
- There stand the thrones for judgement, the thrones of the house of David
- Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May those who love you be secure.
- May there be peace within your walls and security within your citadels.”
- For the sake of my family and friends, I will say, “Peace be within you.”
- For the sake of the house of the Lord our God, I will seek your prosperity.
