First Things First: Where is America In Final Bible Prophecy?

The recent solar eclipse that graced American soil was met with a load of so called “Prophecy Hunters” looking for their next viral TikTok video fueled by hermeneutics worse than watching Joe Biden walk up an airplane stairwell.

Many Americans, perhaps because of egocentrism, believe that America must be involved in the apocalyptic-level events of the last days.

Christians and non Christians alike are ruffling through the pages of Scripture to look for answers during these time of global distress involved with the threat of an impending nuclear war.

Recently, while getting a haircut, my barber began to bombard me with questions concerning Bible prophecy and what we are to expect in the coming days. He felt as though there were an alarm sounding loud in his heart. He was not a born again Christian but after I gave him the rundown as to how this age finishes and the prophecies of Scripture concerning Israel and the middle east, he quickly confessed his faith in Jesus. People know something is up right now, and many are looking to the Bible once again for answers.

“Bible prophecy is not meant to scare you. Bible prophecy is meant to prepare you.” – Evangelist Tiff Shuttlesworth

I read the book of Revelation when I was 11 years of age. Bored out of my mind in a church service, I remember skimming through the 22 chapters of the Apocalypse, which would inevitably put the fear of God in my heart at a young age.

There is something about reading of creatures with the head of a lion and 6 wings flying around a throne room glistening in rainbow colours that gets you to sober up. The book of Revelation is the only book of the Bible that actually guarantees a blessing for those who simply read it.

“Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near.” Revelation 1:3

I have vivid memories of my wayward years from the Lord, when I would be in a park up to nothing good with some friends and a mighty thunderstorm would pass through. Jesus said His return would be so quick it would be like lightning striking from east to west. Not just once or twice but several times in my pre-Christ days, I would see lightning flood the sky and my immediate reaction was to phone home to speak to my father — I needed to make sure Jesus hadn’t come back yet!

On one of these panic trips, my brother picked up the phone, but that wouldn’t have helped my case, he was just as much out of the will of God as I was! The return of Jesus Christ used to scare me to the core. Now years later, nothing fills me with as much exhilarating joy and tangible peace as the irrefutable fact that Jesus is coming soon.

There are no direct references to America in the entire Bible. There are, however, a multitude of nations referred to by name that will be active players in the moments preceding the coming of the Lord. Key nations include: Turkey (Meshech), Iran (Persia), Russia (Rosh), Sudan (Cush), Libya (Put), Southern Turkey (Beth Togarmah), Iraq (Babylon).

There have been attempts by some Bible scholars to try and include American influence into the scriptures, however we must never make the mistake of imposing our bias into any text. We need to let the Bible speak for itself. Proper hermeneutics, which is the systematic study of scripture, states that we should interpret the Bible, not by what we want it to say, but by what the author intended.

There are three scriptures most often used to prove America’s presence in prophecy. Isaiah 18:1-7, Ezekiel 38:13, and Revelation 17- 18. In Isaiah’s excerpt, the nation referred to is described as having “tall and smooth skinned people.” In middle eastern culture, the majority of men, historically, have proudly sported a beard.

In American culture, especially in politics and business, men are clean shaven. Americans are known to be tall people comparatively to other nations of the world. Isaiah also states that this nation will be divided by rivers. America is divided by the Mississippi River and many other rivers. This nation referred to in Isaiah is said to be a powerful and dominant one. America has the strongest military force ever known to the history of man and is generally revered as the greatest superpower in modern history.

Seems convincing, doesn’t it? The only issue here is that Isaiah plainly states who he is speaking of in verse 1. Isaiah 18:1, “Ah, land of whirring wings, that is beyond the rivers of Cush.”

Cush, as stated earlier in this article, is historically identified as the modern nation of Sudan.
