5 Signs We Are In the End Times
When people talk about the end times, they talk about everyone fighting off zombies or a great Hollywood-style apocalypse with chaos on the streets and fire raining down from the heavens, but what does the Bible have to say the days will look like before Jesus comes back for his church?
Just as with every issue and/or subject under the sun, God addresses each and every issue under the sun, that include the signs we are to look for concerning the end times. So here are five signs to watch for before the return of Jesus Christ:
WARS AND RUMORS OF WARS
Throughout scripture we are told that nations will rise against each other. Looking at what’s happening globally today, with the whole geopolitical landscape radically shifting and new alliances being formed, these are signs!
Jesus also talks about rumors of war. Just look at what’s happening today! The shifting geopolitical landscape has produced more talk about World War III than any other global dynamic yet. And even though these things are happening and will continue to happen, Jesus tells us not to let these things worry our hearts or minds because “the end is not yet.”
Jesus was doing the same thing when He spoke of false Christs in Matthew 24:5. Jesus tells us in Matthew 24:8 that “all these are the beginning of the birth pains.”
- Luke 21:10 says, “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom”
PERSECUTION
Another sign of the end times is persecution, it’s not a very popular point to bring up, and understandably so, it’s not exactly something that excites the spirit. However, in the end times, we are warned that persecution against Christians will increase, whilst betrayal in families and hatred in society will also increase.
In Matthew 24, Jesus issues this warning to his disciples, “Then you will be arrested, persecuted and killed. You will be hated all over the world because you are my followers. And many will turn away from Me and betray and hate each other.”
But this isn’t the end of the story!
The Holy Spirit doesn’t leave us, he is our comforter and we can rely fully on him, in fact, in Luke 21 we are told to, “make up your mind not to worry beforehand how you will defend yourselves. For I will give you words and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict. You will be betrayed even by parents, brothers and sisters, relatives and friends, and they will put some of you to death. Everyone will hate you because of me. But not a hair of your head will perish. Stand firm, and you will win life.”
SIGNS IN, ON, AND ABOVE THE EARTH
Natural disasters take place globally all the time but the frequency at which they are occurring isn’t due to “climate change” which is purely fearmongering and a distraction away from the truth.
Devastating earthquakes, wildfires and signs in the heavens are all described in scripture as “birth pangs” and all point to the end times.
Great detail regarding the signs in the heavens which haven’t been witnessed since creation are described in the 6th Seal of Revelation.
Revelation 6:12-14 says, “When he opened the sixth seal, I looked, and behold, there was a great earthquake, and the sun became black as sackcloth, the full moon became like blood, and the stars of the sky fell to the earth as the fig tree sheds its winter fruit when shaken by a gale. The sky vanished like a scroll that is being rolled up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place.”
When God created the heavens, He didn’t need light for He had already created it. So what were the heavens created for? They were created for his glory and to serve as a signs of hope!
Luke 21:25-28 says, “There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea. People will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming in the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken. At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads because your redemption is drawing near.”
Luke 21:11 also says, “There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and events and great signs from heaven.”
HUNGER, FAMINE, DISEASE
Hunger and famine are two major issues plaguing our world today.
Statistically, over 11 percent of the world’s population doesn’t have access to food, this equates to roughly 805 million people who are undernourished daily.
Meanwhile, we are also informed that there will be an increase in new diseases (whether they are the result of human origin or naturally occurring is up for debate if they are indeed “new”).
Revelation 6:5-8 discusses new diseases and plagues that will follow in their wake that will be a sign for us in the end times.
As previously stated, Luke 21:11 speaks of various kinds of pestilences in the earth and how the last days will be marked by events that stir fear in the hearts of men. Bill Gates stated that this will be the decade of vaccines and many pandemics, it is possible that the COVID-19 “pandemic” was one of the various diseases and plagues that is spoken of in the Word of God. To dismiss this as a possibility would be wrong on our part.
DECEPTION
One of the major signs of the end times is deception.
In a world flooded with true disinformation and outright lies not only in the political realm but seemingly on every front, from the media to education to the teaching impressionable and vulnerable that there are more than two genders and that men can be women and vice versa, deception is rampant, so much so that it has reached inside the church.
Jesus specifically warns his people about the rise of false prophets who will say they are the Messiah who claim to possess the answers humanity is seeking in Matthew 24.
Every society is filled with people searching for leaders but we must not lean on our own understanding, placing our trust in mere men. Our hope must be in Christ!
God knows the beginning from the end, He alone is worthy of our trust and reliance. When we see those who are looking for a leader in mortal men, may we be the ones who point them to the hope of our salvation – Jesus Christ.
Conclusion
Jesus uses the parable of the fig tree to illustrate the need for believers to be watchful and ready for his return. No one knows the day or hour of Jesus’ return, and so it is crucial to remain vigilant and faithful. (Matthew 24:32-51; Luke 21:29-38)
Be encouraged when you see the above signs, you were chosen to be on earth at such a time as this! Your life wasn’t a mistake nor were you born in the wrong era. Right here, right now, you have a purpose to pursue and a destiny to fulfill.
Luke 21:32-36 says, ““Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. “Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap. For it will come on all those who live on the face of the whole earth. Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.”
