Russia In Bible Prophecy: Everything You Need to Know About Russia in the Last Days

Russia in Bible Prophecy - Encounter Today - Blog

The prophetic landscape of the end times, as revealed in the Bible, intriguingly positions Russia as a pivotal player in the unfolding events. The basis for this view predominantly stems from Ezekiel 38:15-16, which foretells of an invasion from the north into Israel during a period when the Jewish people have returned to their homeland.

The roots of this prophecy can be traced back to the genealogical accounts in Genesis 10, where the descendants of Japheth, one of Noah’s sons, are listed. Prominent among these are Gomer, Magog, Tubal, and Meshech. In these early post-flood days, it was a common practice for tribes to adopt the name of their patriarch.

From this genealogical mapping, a fascinating picture emerges:

Magog: Identified with the Scythians and Tartars, ancient ancestors of the modern Russian populace. Historically, the Greeks referred to the Scythians as Magogites, a direct linguistic link to the Magog of Genesis.

Tubal: This line is believed to have settled around the Black Sea region. The city of Tobolsk, located in southwestern Siberia, is seen as a modern-day testament to this tribal name.

Meshech: These descendants are closely associated with Tubal and Magog, pointing to northern territories. The etymology suggests that ‘Meshech’ is a precursor to the modern name ‘Moscow.’

Rosh: A critical interpretation in Ezekiel 38:3, where the Hebrew word ‘rosh’, traditionally translated as ‘chief’, is viewed as a proper noun. It implies a direct reference to a tribe located near the Volga River, a precursor to the modern name ‘Russia’.

This prophetic alignment places Russia as a central force in a coalition that includes Persia (modern Iran and Iraq), Ethiopia, Libya, Gomer (regions of Eastern Germany and Slovakia), and Togarmah (Turkey), with Daniel 11:40-44 adding Egypt to this alliance. The motivation for this confederation is multifaceted: while Arab nations might be driven by a desire to claim Israel, Russia’s intent is portrayed as a quest to control the Middle East’s wealth, including oil reserves and the mineral riches of the Dead Sea, estimated at $2 trillion.

The prophetic scenario suggests that Israel will be living in a deceptive state of security, likely under a peace treaty brokered with the Western alliance, or the revived Roman Empire, intended to last seven years (Daniel 9:27). However, this security is shattered midway through this period by the Russian-led invasion, marking it as a catastrophic military error. The conflict, though brief, is foretold to be devastating, reducing the invading force to a mere sixth of its original strength.

This invasion serves as a catalyst for the Antichrist to fully occupy Israel under the guise of protection, thereby extending his dominion globally. However, divine intervention is prophesied, with Israel’s miraculous preservation turning many Jews towards their Messiah. Russia, after being repelled to Siberia (Ezekiel 39:1-2; Joel 2:20), is predicted to regroup and return in a larger conflict involving all nations, culminating in the battle of Armageddon (Revelation 16:16).

It is becoming increasingly evident that all the pieces are aligning for the return of Jesus Christ. The prophetic signs, as outlined in the Scriptures, point towards a culmination of events that herald His Second Coming. This realization beckons a profound and personal question: Are you ready to meet Jesus?

Now is the opportune moment to give your life to Him. If you haven’t already, I encourage you to repent of your sin and accept His saving grace into your life.

As believers, we are called to ‘occupy till He comes’ (Luke 19:13), which means actively serving Him, spreading His message of love and redemption, and living out our faith in tangible, impactful ways. It’s not just about waiting for His return, but being engaged in the Kingdom’s work, making a difference in the lives of others, and being a shining light of His love and grace in a world that so desperately needs it.

In these prophetic times, let us hold fast to our faith, look up with anticipation, and work diligently, knowing that our labor in the Lord is not in vain. May we all be ready and rejoice on that glorious day when we finally meet our Savior face to face.

  • Hey pastor Alan and team,

Beautiful article and a stern warning at the end! Thank you.

More over, Rick renner, places all these names, especially gog and Magog (seeing their graves there) in modern day Turkey.

What do you think about that?

Have you considered that Ezekiel 38-39 cannot possibly take place at any time before the millennial reign of our Lord?…
    Nothing fits or will fit.

This takes place in the “latter years” when Israel is dwelling “safely.” Picture any scenario based on current events of the last 80 years where Israel is dwelling safely or any new scenario in the next 50 years that could look like that kind of peaceful existence with the trajectory our world is on.
Antichrist’s false peace can’t accomplish this – but only Christ’s peace.

    NO bars, gates or walls?…

This is the exact same conflict mentioned in Revelation 20. This is not Gog-Magog #2.

We are told by Jesus that “wars and rumours of wars” until the end of this age, PERIOD, just not THAT particular war.
