FRANCE: Jail For Vaccine Critics?

A new (extremely controversial) legislative proposal has passed in France’s parliament. The bill would fine and jail citizens who encourage others to refuse recommended medical treatments which would include mRNA COVID injections.

Critics of the bill have labeled it the “Article Pfizer” law and warn it threatens freedom of speech regarding health choices.

If passed, this bill could shift the entire discourse around public health in France and inspire other nations to take on similar policies.

The punishment under deliberation for the “crime” of voicing concerns or criticisms of mRNA injections and medical treatments could result in up to three years in prison and a fine of 45,000 euros.

This piece of legislation isn’t meant to maintain some balance between protecting public health and free speech. There is more to this bill that is revealed through the government’s intent for it.

Those in favor of the law claim it would assist in tackling “dangerous” misinformation in the midst of another global pandemic which could potentially lead to public hesitancy about vaccines and undermine the efforts of those in the public health bureaucracy to stop the spread of viruses.

Those in opposition to the bill say it casts a prejudgment on complementary medicine, stifles free speech, undermines liberty and threatens whistleblowers. One such critic is the Patriots Party Florian Philippot who first dubbed the most problematic portion of the bill, Article 4, as the “Pfizer amendment.”

French biologist Annelise Bocquet reacted with shock on X saying, “To my international friends and colleagues: Today a law was passed in France that describes any opposition to mRNA-LNP injections as a “sectarian aberration.” It is punished with a penalty of up to three years in prison and 45,000 euros.”

The question is – where will the erosion of individual freedoms end if this bill is permitted to pass? What issue in the future will French citizens not be allowed to freely discuss? We must question where the line will be drawn.

France isn’t alone in its quest to squash speech they deem unfavorable, most especially when it comes to policies, products or ideologies that the government promotes. Countries worldwide have begun putting measures in place to combat so-called “misinformation” (a highly abused term) about the pandemic ranging from legal actions to public education campaigns or what we like to call it – propaganda.

This law out of France stands above the rest for specifically including criticism of mRNA vaccines as cause for punishment. This leads us to ask yet another question, could this specific medical intervention be highlighted due to its potential high threshold use in the future? If it will be intensively used in the coming years, wouldn’t it make sense for a country to get ahead and criminalize opposition to it?

The “Article Pfizer” bill is off to France’s Senate for ratification and could see passage and implementation this year.
