BREAKING: Arizona Republican Chair Resigns After Bribing Candidate
Chair of Arizona’s Republican Party Jeff DeWit has resigned after DailyMail.com published leaked audio of DeWit bribing Arizona Senate candidate Kari Lake to step out of politics.
In the leaked audio, DeWit explains how there are powerful people who would offer Lake a job or money if she removed herself from politics for two years. The recording is from a conversation in early March of 2023.
In his resignation statement, DeWit accused Lake of setting him up by recording a private conversation.

“This morning I was determined to fight for my position,” said DeWit, “However a few hours ago I received an ultimatum from Lake’s team: Resign today or face the release of a new, more damaging recording.”
The day before the audio was leaked, Lake (who helped get DeWit the position) demanded his resignation and went on record telling the DailyMail.com that the American people had had enough, “The truth is all coming out now,” she said.

There should be a much bigger punishment besides a forced resignation.

Days after DeWit’s approach, Lake went public with her allegations that powerful forces tried to stop her running. At the time, she didn’t reveal who was behind the bribe or what it fully entailed.

The audio obtained by DailyMail.com exposed how DeWit was at Lake’s home last March when he made her the offer. “There are very powerful people who want to keep you out,” he is heard saying.
At the time of the recording, Lake was seriously exploring the possibility of running for U.S. Senate, which is significant seeing as DeWit’s bribe hinged on Lake staying out of politics for two years in exchange for “a number” and a job to keep her busy.
In justifying his actions, DeWit claimed what he offered was merely a suggestion to postpone her campaign for two years in order to run for governor again. “It was a suggestion made in good faith, believing it could benefit both her future prospects and the party’s overall strategy,” he said.
DeWit admits he “said things I regret,” that the audio was “selectively edited” and that “the recording, from over ten months ago, is not only taken out of context but also undermines the integrity of private discussions critical for party leadership.”
After asking Lake not to discuss the conversation with anyone, “If you say no, it’s fine, it’s your choice, don’t tell people,” he told Lake. After this, he made his first offer.
Lake says, “This is about defeating Trump and I think that’s a bad, bad thing for our country.”
“I think what it really comes down to is control for a lot of people, it’s not about control or agenda,” DeWit says, “It’s about the ability to raise money to win.”
“I don’t want to make a deal with these kinds of people. This is a hill worth dying on,” she said, “I owe it to the people of Arizona to carry their torch and voice.”
The question we need to know is not why DeWit approached Lake with this bribe. The question we need to be asking is, who put up the money and offered the jobs?
