January 6 Committee Deleted Hundreds of Encrypted Files After Midterms - Encounter Today - Blog

Days before Republicans gained a majority in the House of Representatives in the 2022 midterms, more than 100 encrypted files were allegedly deleted from its records by the former House Select Committee who investigated the January 6th incident in the U.S. Capitol.

According to members of the new Subcommittee who are carrying on the investigation, before the new set of Republican-led representatives took over, all evidence and documentation that helped in the creation of the January 6 report, were to be handed over.

Additional resources to assist in the investigation of security failures that allowed the riot to take place have been allocated by the subcommittee’s new Chairman Barry Loudermilk whilst the scope of the inquiry has also expanded based upon allegations that the previous investigation led by seven Democrats and two Republicans wasn’t conducted in transparency.

Chairman Loudermilk made statements on Fox News Digital saying the investigation has entered into a “new phase” with Speaker of the House Mike Johnson giving his full support and allocating additional resources for the investigation into the panel’s security failures.

After securing the House during the 2022 midterms, the select committee, which was led by Representative Bennie Thompson, was expected to turn over four terabytes of archived data but the new select committee only received around two terabytes.

117 files were encrypted and deleted on January 1, 2023, days before the transfer. All the files were successfully recovered but are still password-protected.

Chairman Loudermilk sent a letter to Chairman Bennie Thompson demanding access to the files and an explanation as to why they were deleted in the first place. “Specific transcribed interviews and depositions to the White House and Department of Homeland Security” were missing from the record, he said. The general counsels of the White House and DHS were also sent letters requesting “unedited and unredacted transcripts” of these interviews as well.

“One recovered file disclosed the identity of an individual whose testimony was not archived by the Select Committee,” Loudermilk wrote. “Further, we found that most of the recovered files are password-protected, preventing us from determining what they contain.”

In an interview with Fox News Digital, Loudermilk said, “It’s obvious that Pelosi’s Select Committee went to great lengths to prevent Americans from seeing certain documents produced in their investigation … It also appears that Bennie Thompson (D) and Liz Cheney (R) intended to obstruct our Subcommittee by failing to preserve critical information and videos as required by House rules.”

“The American people deserve to know the full truth, and Speaker Johnson has empowered me to use all tools necessary to recover these documents to get the truth, and I will.”

This is a developing story and will be updated as information is released
