Canada Prime Minister Funds Brutal Communist Regime - Encounter Today - Blog

$41 million, that’s how much taxpayer dollars Canada was sending the brutal Communist regime in Beijing just four years ago. That’s when Canada’s official opposition party asked for an immediate end to all foreign aid to a “communist dictatorial government that abuses human rights.”

At that time, the leader of the official opposition, Andrew Scheer, stated, “I don’t believe Canadian taxpayers should be sending any money to China … We’re talking about a communist dictatorial government that abuses human rights, quashes freedoms, violates rights of its citizens and has a very aggressive foreign policy all throughout the region. China is headed in a direction that is not in alignment with Canadian values.”

The Statistical Report on International Assistance recently tabled in Parliament revealed that the federal government continues to send money to China, despite being cited internationally for various human rights abuses. As of today, China is still receiving $7.59 million in foreign aid from Trudeau’s government.

If it wasn’t evident before, it most certainly is now – Trudeau’s “admiration” for China’s “basic dictatorship” is still alive and well.

If $7.59 million in aid money going to fund China wasn’t enough, we’ve found that this figure doesn’t include the $18.7 million in repayable Export Development Canada loans or the Finance Department’s $159.2-million US purchase of shares in the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank of Beijing. If we include these two figures, it bumps the total amount up to a whopping $185.49 million.

Canada’s Ties with the Communist Regime

In 2020, it was exposed that Canadian soldiers had been training members of the Chinese military in winter warfare. Amid scrutiny following a report that was mistakenly released under access to information laws, it was revealed that senior civil servants at Global Affairs Canada opposed Chief of Defence Staff General Jonathan Vance’s decision to cancel the training activities with the regime. The training program has since been dissolved but the fact that it was even in operation sounds alarm bells.

In 2022, the Spain-based human rights group Safeguard Defenders reported that more than 50 Chinese police stations exist in other countries worldwide, including three in the Greater Toronto Area and others in Montreal (that we are aware of).

These stations had been in existence for some time, and even though Canadian authorities knew about them, they did nothing. Having such stations in place is not only a violation of international law, it is a breach of national sovereignty. How was this not of concern to Trudeau’s government?

Currently, Ethiopia receives the most money in Canadian foreign aid of any country with an annual amount of $206.6 million, followed by Afghanistan and Bangladesh.

Perspective

Canadians are hurting. Coupling together the ramifications of the 2020 government lockdowns with inflation and the rising cost of living, food banks have never been so busy and stories of hopeless Canadians seeking assisted suicide have made their debut in news headlines.

It is immoral for any nation, including Canada, to not only fund a corrupt regime that violates human rights, but also to neglect the people who are suffering in their own backyard.
