UN General Assembly Attacks Israel, Ignores Terrorists
The United Nations General Assembly has voted on a resolution demanding a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza. This has been seen as a rebuke to the United States which has consistently blocked calls for a ceasefire from within the UN’s Security Council.
What makes this resolution especially disturbing is how the acts of war and terror committed by Hamas were specifically omitted.
The resolution discusses the suffering of Palestinians but refuses to mention who is causing their suffering, Hamas themselves. How many accounts from men and women on the ground in Gaza must be written detailing the terror caused by Hamas?
Clear Bias Against Israel
Indeed the one country continually singled out and condemned at the UN Security Council is Israel, just so you understand, this is the bias we are working from. As clearly stated on the General Assembly’s website addressing the contents of the resolution it states “The resolution does not condemn Hamas or make any specific reference to the extremist group.”
This resolution, though it contains a few points which speak in favor of civilians, is a backhanded attack on Israel and United States.
Allies & Adversaries
Only two European countries voted against the ceasefire which would assist Hamas: Czechia, who was the only European country that supported Israel in its War of Independence in 1948 and Austria: one of Israel’s closest and most consistent allies.
Israel’s ambassador to the UN addressed the ceasefire motion with a power move saying, “If you want a ceasefire, ask Yahya Sinwar, head of Hamas. This is his number.”

One country who abandoned Israel, the United States and several of her allies by voting for the UN motion on the war in Gaza was Canada who crossed the floor to join Iran, Russia, Libya, Syria and North Korea.
Interestingly, Canadian Member of Parliament, Marco Mendicino, voiced opposition to Canada’s vote at the UN. This is unique seeing as Canada’s representatives to the UN must seek council from the Prime Minister’s office on strategic votes like this.
Why Did This Vote Happen?
Earlier this week, 153 member states voted to adopt a resolution “demanding a humanitarian ceasefire, the protection of civilians, the immediate, unconditional release of all hostages and humanitarian access” in the UN General Assembly. Ten member states voted against the resolution and 23 abstained from the vote, United States and Israel were among the ten.
A similar resolution was vetoed by United States last week in the Security Council which led to other countries calling for the emergency General Assembly meeting to vote on the ceasefire resolution which disabled the United States from vetoing the resolution.
The United States ambassador to the UN, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, said United States supported some of the resolution, including portions which called for the protection of civilians and freeing hostages, but added that “any ceasefire right now would be temporary at best and dangerous at worst.”
Perspective
The UN and countries aligned with her anti-Israel causes stand no chance against God’s promise to protect the nation of Israel. Not only will God punish those who attack Israel, but He will punish those who rejoice that Israel suffers. Eventually, God destroyed one nation because it attacked Israel. Another nation was destroyed because it rejoiced when Israel was attacked by another nation. In addition, another nation was destroyed because it sought vengeance on Israel.
God promised to bless those nations who bless Israel and anyone who despises or seeks to harm Israel will be cursed by God, Himself (Genesis 12:2-3). This is a key reason to support Israel. Any nation in the world who seeks to harm Israel will find God’s wrath upon it.
We can tie ourselves and our families into that very blessing by praying for the peace of Jerusalem and advocating for the right of Israel to determine her own destiny.
God’s word stands final and forever, it cannot be shaken.
“The nations are in chaos, and their kingdoms crumble! God’s voice thunders, and the earth melts! The LORD of Heaven’s Armies is here among us; the God of Israel is our fortress.” Psalms 46:6-7
