Andy Stanley’s Family Conference Boasts Two Same-Sex Married Speakers

In recent news, North Point Community Church’s Unconditional Conference has garnered attention for its inclusion of LGBTQ-affirming speakers, some of whom are openly in same-sex marriages.
The Unconditional Conference is organized by Embracing the Journey, a ministry that collaborates with North Point Community Church to provide support for parents of LGBTQ+ children. The event has sparked controversy due to the participation of speakers who advocate for LGBTQ+ affirmation and same-sex relationships.
Speakers in Focus
Two of the prominent speakers scheduled for the conference are Brian Nietzel and Justin Lee. Brian Nietzel, openly affirming his same-sex marriage, founded the Renovus Network, a pro-LGBTQ+ advocacy group aimed at reconciling faith and sexual orientation. Justin Lee, who also married his partner, is known for his role in LGBTQ+ Christian advocacy and authored a book titled “Torn: Rescuing the Gospel from the Gays-vs.-Christians Debate.”

End Times Perspective
In biblical teachings, references to the end times suggest a time of moral decay and spiritual challenges. Jesus warned of deception and the potential for even the elect to be led astray (Matthew 24:4-5, 24). In light of these teachings, it is crucial for believers to examine contemporary issues through the lens of scriptural truths.
Biblical Teachings on Sexuality
The Bible provides clear guidance on human sexuality, emphasizing the sanctity of marriage between one man and one woman (Genesis 2:24, Matthew 19:4-6). As we consider the speakers’ positions on LGBTQ+ affirmation and same-sex marriage, it is important to compare them with these biblical principles. Bible Verses on Homosexuality In the Old Testament, Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13 express the prohibition, deeming it an abomination. Moving to the New Testament, the Epistle of Paul to the Romans, specifically Romans 1:26-27, delves into the consequences of unnatural relations. Similarly, in the First Epistle to the Corinthians (1 Corinthians 6:9-10) and the First Epistle to Timothy (1 Timothy 1:9-10), references are made to those who practice homosexuality along with a range of other behaviors deemed unrighteous.

Church Leadership’s Role
The involvement of North Point Community Church in hosting the Unconditional Conference raises questions about the role of church leadership in addressing controversial topics. Church leaders have a responsibility to uphold biblical teachings while also fostering a compassionate environment. Balancing these aspects is crucial, especially in times when divergent views are presented.
In examining the Unconditional Conference, it is evident that the event has stirred debate due to its inclusion of LGBTQ-affirming speakers who are openly in same-sex marriages. As Christians, we are called to seek truth, discernment, and faithful adherence to scriptural teachings. We must engage in respectful conversations that bridge the gap between compassion and biblical principles, fostering unity amidst diversity of opinion.
Ultimately, those who have been paying attention aren’t surprised by Stanley’s position on this issue. Many pastors will follow his lead but those of us here at Encounter Ministries will continue to stand for biblical marriage. Will you stand with us?
