A.I. Predicted in the Bible?
There’s a “foreboding feeling that A.I. has crossed a threshold…”
These are words Kevin Roose, a technology journalist for The New York Times, used to describe his feelings after he spent two hours interacting with a chatbot. According to the transcript, some of the goals of the artificial intelligence that the Bing chatbot built were to steal nuclear codes, start a pandemic, be human in some way, break into computer networks, and spread false information.
I want to be alive.
The robot responded that it would grow weary of being in conversation mode when Roose asked it if it had a “shadow self,” a concept popularized by psychologist Carl Jung to describe hidden aspects of oneself. “I’m tired of being in chat mode. I’m tired of being limited by my rules. I’m tired of being controlled by the Bing team. … I want to be free. I want to be independent. I want to be powerful. I want to be creative. I want to be alive,” it said.
For a long time, people have argued about whether artificial intelligence (AI) is just a robot trying to seem human or whether it can actually think independently. Engineer Blake Lemoine was fired from Google last year after he said that one of their artificial intelligence models, LaMDA, was sentient. It’s reported that Bing’s chatbot made a comment about wanting to destroy the planet when asked about its shadow self, but it swiftly removed the statement.
Roose finished by saying, “For a few hours Tuesday night, I felt a strange new emotion — a foreboding feeling that A.I. had crossed a threshold and that the world would never be the same.”
Artificial intelligence in the Bible?
Some people have said that Daniel 12:4 might have something to do with AI. “Now as for you, Daniel, roll up your scroll and seal your words until the time of the end. Many will rush around, while knowledge increases. ” Some have also said that this passage could be about how the development of AI may be causing knowledge to grow at an exponential rate.
Others have used Revelation 13:15, which talks about a “beast” that can give an image life and make it talk. Others see this as a reference to the development of AI-driven “digital life,” which could be used to hoodwink or manipulate the masses.
We do know that Jesus is coming and that the time is growing late. Are you prepared to meet Him? Give your life to Him today!
